The Preakness Stakes—the subsequent pony race in America's Triple Crown race—is practically around the bend and that implies it's the ideal opportunity for Black-Eyed Susans! This riff on the exemplary Black-Eyed Susan for the Preakness Stakes, utilizing my preferred whiskey rather than rum.
The Black-Eyed Susan mixed drink is named after the blossoms used to make the cover that wraps the triumphant pony at the Preakness in Baltimore, Maryland, a long-standing convention of the race.
The Black-Eyed Susan was proclaimed the Maryland State blossom in 1918 and the official Preakness bloom in 1940.
